China's international parcel delivery has seen a significant surge, thanks to the fast development of the cross-border delivery network.
In the first half of this year, China's postal express industry opened more than 10 international air freight routes and expanded the cargo aircraft fleet.
As the first cargo-focused airport in Asia, the Ezhou Huahu Airport operates 28 flights every week, transporting more than 15,000 tons of goods overseas as of this August.
Put into operation in July 2022, the international cargo hub has been bustling with activity. From the airport, cargo planes, carrying approximately 100 tons of packages, can reach Frankfurt Airport in Germany in just over 10 hours.
The airport boasts seven international cargo routes, radiating from Ezhou to South Asia, Europe, and North America.
"We've optimized runway operations. In daytime, the airport mainly accommodate passenger flights, and we use one runway. At night, we switch to a dual-runway model, so that we can better ensure efficient takeoffs and landings for freight flights," said Liu Qi, an air traffic controller of the Ezhou Huahu Airport.
With the increase of air routes for international shipments, China also accelerated cross-border logistics on the ground.
As of now, China's postal express delivery industry has established a cross-border delivery network that covers over 200 countries and regions.
The country also put in service freight trains transporting postal packages from southwestern Chinese city Chengdu to Russia's capital Moscow.
In addition, 104 freight trains dedicated to cross-border e-commerce have been operating between Xi'an in northwestern China and European cities like Hamburg and Duisburg.
The China-Europe freight trains for postal services running from Chongqing to 13 European countries now run on a regular basis.
"Express delivery companies are accelerating infrastructure network construction and improving the sea-land-air logistics network. This helps improve the effectiveness, stability, and convenience of the delivery logistics network, which will better meet the demands from enterprises to explore business overseas," said Zhao Guojun, director of postal development research center of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
Chinese courier companies handled a total of 1.87 billion parcels sent from or delivered to places outside the Chinese mainland in the first eight months this year, up 56.3 percent year on year, showed data released by the State Post Bureau on Tuesday.
