China's car rental services have seen a brisk market recently thanks to the approaching holidays -- the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day -- which combine to offer an eight-day break from Sept.29 to Oct.6.
According to China's Ministry of Transport, car rental orders for the holidays in Beijing have spiked by 200 percent year on year.
"Car rental orders have seen 40 percent up compared to the same period in 2019. We anticipated a further growth to 50 percent three or four days before the break," said Li Shisong in charge of the Beijing branch of a car rental company.
To meet the escalating market demand, domestic car rental services suppliers have acted to diversify car types to cater to families seeking large vehicles, and to identify areas and periods with the highest demand.
"Thanks to big data, we can effectively mobilize vehicles heading to areas with great demand in real time," said Qu Xiaonan, who takes charge of security at an online car-pooling platform.
Statistics from the Ministry of Transport show that more than 50 percent of customers rent cars for tourism. For the National Day holiday, car rental orders in the western regions have registered a year-on-year growth of over 200 percent.
"Xinjiang, Tibet, Yunnan, Guizhou are among the most popular destinations for self-driving tours," said Chen Linan, director of the Public Relations Department at an online travel platform.
