China saw a robust rebound in gold consumption during the just-concluded 2023 Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, or the Spring Festival, according to China Gold Association on Monday.
Gold consumption increased by 18.2 percent year on year during the 15-day traditional holiday season starting from the Spring Festival on Jan 22 to the Lantern Festival on Sunday, indicating a rapid recovery momentum, showed the latest official data released by the association.
"The gold shops seized the business opportunity arising from the booming consumption demand during the traditional peak season of the Spring Festival, with the launch of a series of promotional activities such as price-break discounts, gift-with-purchase offer and instant coupon rebate to boost further growth of the passenger flow," said Li Yang, deputy secretary general of China Gold Association.
The zodiac rabbit-themed gold products sold best during the Spring Festival Golden Week, which was in Jan 21-27, with the bracelet product sales going up by 28.9 percent from the same period of last year, according to the data.
The 2023 Chinese Lunar Year is a Year of the Rabbit on the Chinese zodiac circle of 12 animals.
In addition to gold ornaments, investment products such as gold coins and gold bars were also favored by consumers.
