The China-Laos Railway, a landmark project of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, on Sunday announced the addition of two new stops - Yuxi Station in China and Muang Xay Station in Laos - along its route, bringing the total number of stations to 10.
This move is aimed at facilitating cross-border travel and strengthening connectivity with Laos, in line with the railway's role in facilitating greater economic exchange and people-to-people ties through enhanced infrastructure linkages under the Belt and Road Initiative.
The China-Laos Railway, which links the Lao capital Vientiane with Kunming, the capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, has handled 145,000 passenger trips from more than 80 countries and regions for cross-border travel since it officially launched cross-border passenger service on April 13, 2023.
In south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the ship lock of the Datengxia water conservancy hydropower project ended its 20-day planned exam and maintenance, and resumed navigation on Sunday. This maintenance is the first after the ship lock was operated at a water level of 61 meters.
The lock is among the last batch of large ship locks that have been examined in Xijiang River. After the lock finished this examination, it can meet the requirements of safe passage of ships up to 3,000 tons.
In the first two month of 2024, the cargo throughput at Shenzhen Port saw a major increase of 23.5 percent, reaching 4.83 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), data from the Shenzhen transport bureau showed.
The surge in cross-border e-commerce orders of enterprises and the constant demand for shipping have also promoted the development of the logistics industry. In a logistics warehousing company in Qianhai, Shekou section of China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the order volume and export volume have also made new breakthroughs.
"Our customers' main export products are electronic components, and their main export clients are Southeast Asian countries. [This year], our export volume has increased by more than 600 percent, and the order volume has increased by about 20 percent year on year," said Li Yujiao, business manager of Shenzhen Langhua Logistics Co., Ltd.
