Xi'an City in northwest China's Shaanxi Province is establishing a commercial aerospace industry cluster zone and aims to foster the growth of commercial aerospace enterprises by prioritizing technology innovation and product maturity.
This initiative is designated to optimize the positioning of commercial aerospace within the entire aerospace industry chain.
XiopmSpace is a company that independently develops hyperspectral satellite constellations.
Hyperspectral satellites are akin to equipping each satellite with a specialized camera capable of capturing spectral information of various materials on the ground. They find wide applications in fields such as agriculture, environmental protection, disaster prevention, and mitigation.
This company's unique technical advantages in the hyperspectral field originate from the Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics (XIOPM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
The hyperspectral detection equipment they developed has served more than 10 major national projects such as the "Chang'e-5" lunar probe, the "Tianwen-1" Mars probe, and China’s manned deep-sea submersible Fendouzhe, or "Striver".
In order to better commercialize hyperspectral technology, the company’s entrepreneurial team was established in 2021, with core members from the XIOPM. The aim is to carry out industrial transformation for this technology.
"What we are actually making is hyperspectral satellites, which means integrating hyperspectral payloads onto whole satellite platforms. Then the satellite constellation, along with the data and applications, is an extension of a larger and longer chain," said Qin Jing, general manager of XiopmSpace.
Zhongke Tianta Science and Technology Co., Ltd., a commercial aerospace platform company, has also set up a team to develop the satellite management software platforms.
Through this management system, satellite data can be monitored, and the status of satellites can be remotely managed.
As a startup company, the team has already provided support for dozens of major projects. The annual revenue has also increased from zero in 2018 to nearly 100 million yuan (about 15.38 million U.S. dollars) at present.
"Because we are only one link in this industrial chain, the prosperity of the entire industrial chain can drive our prosperity. We have indeed seen the entire country's encouragement of this industry, so we remain confident about the future," said Zeng Weigang, general manager of Zhongke Tianta Science and Technology Co., Ltd.
