China has seen an average of 170 million passenger trips per day since July 1, the start of the summer travel rush, up 2.6 percent from the same period last year, data from the Ministry of Transport showed on Saturday.

Highway traffic has averaged 150 million passenger trips daily, accounting for over 90 percent of all daily passenger trips across China, according to the ministry.

The number of cross-province trips has greatly increased from last month, with Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in east China becoming popular destinations. With the rising popularity of self-driving tours, Nanjing offers incentives for drivers of electric vehicles (EVs), including discounts on charging fees and free vehicle testing.

"A self-driving tour offers me greater freedom. I can stop at any time and enjoy our country's beautiful scenery along the way. Charging my EV is also convenient; it typically takes just half an hour to fully charge it," said Zhu Haihua, an EV driver.

In addition, the civil aviation sector is expected to see a total of 133 million passenger trips during this summer travel rush, averaging 2.15 million trips daily. Multiple airports across China have enhanced interconnectivity among main flight routes, feeder lines, and short-distance air transport routes, improving travel transfer services.
