East China's Xiamen City has seen a growing stream of international flights over the past few weeks as the anemic tourism and air transport industries are freeing from the clutches of the COVID-19 pandemic and rebound amid the country's fine-tuned response.
At the Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, travelers were queuing to go through the departure procedures and complying with formalities including filling in their passport number and vaccination record.
Most of these travelers were going overseas for academic purposes or to visit friends or relatives. They told CCTV that the increase in international flights and improved exit and entry management have made their international travel much easier.
"I see there are quite a lot of people going abroad," said a traveler surnamed Zhang.
"I'm going to Sydney. There are more flights now. It's very convenient," said another traveler surnamed Luo.
The Xiamen Airlines has launched four new routes from Xiamen to Jakarta, Indonesia since the start of this month, with the passenger occupancy rate is rising steadily.
Apart from passenger flights, the number of cargo flights is also on the rise. At the city's air cargo terminal, boxes of electronic products, textiles and handicrafts are about to be delivered to countries all over the world.
"The American Atlas (cargo airlines) has already started flights from Xiamen to Mexico City this month, and an Ethiopian cargo plane is expected on January 12th, which will fly from Xiamen to Sao Paulo," said Zhang Tong, deputy general manager of an air cargo terminal operator in Xiamen.
Over the past two weeks ending on Jan 1, there were 351 inbound and outbound flights registered at the Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, with more than 30,000 international travelers, up 20.62 percent and 126.58 percent year on year respectively.
