Hotel reservations and tour bookings in east China’s Fujian Province are picking up ahead of the upcoming Labor Day Holiday, the traditional holiday honoring workers which runs from May 1 to May 5 in China.

Popular tourist attractions in Fujian, such as Gulangyu Island in Xiamen City, Wuyi Mountain, with its large area of subtropical forests, and the Dajin Lake National Geopark, as well as local hotels, are reporting a surge in ticket and room bookings as independent travelers and group tours plan their trips ahead of the five-day vacation.

"Tourism in Taining Dajin Lake and the other main scenic spots has recovered to more than 80 percent of the same period in 2019, and the bookings for large and medium-scale hotels in Taining county has reached more than 60 percent for the mini break,” said Dai Ruiyang, deputy director of the Tourism Management Committee of Taining County in Sanming City.

In addition to regular sightseeing trips to scenic spots, the local tourism department has also organized various themed rural tours in the province and launched special trains which stop in popular tourist spots.

"It feels very comfortable. The whole environment is very cozy. Looking out through the window, I can see the beautiful area. It's a great experience,” said a tourist aboard a river cruise boat.

In the first quarter of this year, Fujian received 110 million domestic tourists, a quarter more than in the same period in 2022, according to the province’s Department of Culture and Tourism.
