Shenzhen City in south China's Guangdong Province has seen record levels of both cargo and foreign passenger traffic from other Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies for the same period as of early September.
In the first eight months of this year, Shenzhen airport handled 450,000 tons of imports and exports with other APEC economies, up 6.3 percent year on year. By early September, the airport's inbound and outbound foreign passengers from APEC member economies exceeded 1 million, a year-on-year increase of 31.1 percent. Both figures mark new highs for the same period in history.
To facilitate passenger and cargo flows between Shenzhen and other APEC economies, Shenzhen airport has worked with airlines and launched or increased the frequency of 10 international routes to APEC member economies including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea and Singapore.
"Next, Shenzhen airport will continue to collaborate with airlines -- taking into account market demand and available capacity -- to launch and increase the frequency of more direct passenger routes between Shenzhen and other APEC economies," said Wei Zixiao, manager of the marketing development department at Shenzhen Airport.
The airport has also established a round-the-clock green channel for departure tax refunds and improved its international language support, so as to further enhance international service quality.
This year marks the APEC "China Year," with the theme of "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together." China will host the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November.
APEC is the highest-level economic cooperation mechanism that enjoys the broadest scope and the most significant influence in the Asia-Pacific region, and this year is China's third time hosting APEC meeting.
