BEIJING, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese comedy "Successor" topped the daily box office chart on the Chinese mainland on its preview screenings, with whopping daily box office sales of 135.78 million yuan (about 19.04 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.
Starring comedy stars Shen Teng and Ma Li and directed by Yan Fei and Peng Damo, the film tells the story of a poor rural couple who count on their son to change their fate. It will be available for public screening on Tuesday.
Crime thriller "A Place Called Silence" stood second, raking in over 39.37 million yuan on its 13th day of public screening.
Universal and Illumination's animated comedy "Despicable Me 4" came up third with 15.51 million yuan of box office sales.
The total box office revenue of the Chinese mainland on Monday stood at about 200.88 million yuan.
