24 outstanding documentary films, co-produced by China and foreign countries, are collectively unveiled
The 2nd Maritime Silk Road Documentary Film Festival (MSRDOC), which took place in Fuzhou, Fujian Province from March 14 to 16, drew the participation of more than 600 guests, comprising representatives from other 11 international documentary film festivals, representatives from production and issuing institutions in over 15 countries and regions, famous directors, producers and scholars.
Hailed as the largest film event in international cultural exchange program under the Maritime Silk Road, the MSRDOC stays committed to promoting the philosophy of having things documented for eternity, which was advocated in the first session.
24 outstanding documentary films jointly produced by China and foreign countries were collectively released in the opening ceremony, including “Dear Kuliang” (a joint production by China and the US), “A Tale of Two Cities on the Maritime Silk Road” (a joint production by China and Egypt) and “Huang Bo” (a joint production by China and Japan). Under the witness of all the guests and the media, letters of intent for cooperation on four documentary films, namely, “Searching for Giquel” (a joint production by China and France), “Hands of Hope” (a joint production by China and the US), “The River in the East” (a joint production by China and Laos) and “What a Tiny Traveler” (a joint production by China and the US), were signed.
The period from March 14 to 16 also saw the Asian documentary film round-table meeting under the second MSRDOC and screenings of Chinese and foreign documentary films among other activities in Fuzhou. These events were intended to find out and train professionals in Chinese and overseas documentary film industry, expand cultural exchanges, boost industrial development, and foster a new landscape for international cooperation to jointly write a new chapter in the Sino-foreign cooperation on producing documentary films.(Text by Guan Shu, Photo by Chen Nuan)
