Minqing Hosts 2026 Investment Promotion Conference for Overseas Chinese and Ethnic Chinese

The 2026 Minqing County Investment Promotion Conference for Overseas Chinese and Ethnic Chinese was recently held. Leaders and relatives of overseas Chinese originating in Minqing travelled all the way to seek reunion and discuss about cooperation.

Minqing in Fuzhou is not only a county where cultural tradition can date back to more than 1,000 years ago, but a hometown of overseas Chinese famous for the enterprising spirit. More than one hundred years ago, the worthy predecessor Huang Naishang departed from the Meixi wharf and led his fellow villagers in traveling a long way to southeast Asia and carving out a new business in Sibu, Malaysia. Nowadays, 390,000 overseas Chinese originating from Minqing can be found in 57 countries and regions. Overseas compatriots originating from Minqing stay tied to and readily give back to their home land from generation to generation.

In the conference, agreements on 12 overseas Chinese-funded projects involving a total investment of RMB 1.182 bln were signed collectively. These projects cover many fields ranging from intelligent manufacturing, cross-border trade, digital creativity, cultural tourism, health and wellness to modern agriculture. Agreements on four projects aimed at exploiting overseas markets were signed at the same time. That marks that overseas cooperation projects on cross-border processing of data supplied by foreign firms, promotion of AI-enabled short dramas abroad, computing power and Token have taken shape. According to incomplete statistics, 46 projects invested by Minqing abroad are located in more than 20 countries and regions, including Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. A ceremony was also held in the conference to name roads and parks funded by overseas Chinese in Minqing County. These roads and parks are symbolic of the efforts of overseas Chinese to give back to their hometown, and make ties between overseas compatriots and their native place exist permanently.(Tan Xiangzhu)
