The Qingdao Action Plan for Thoroughly Implementing the Marine Sci-tech Innovation Initiative to Accelerate the Building of a Marine Sci-tech Innovation Center was lately officially printed and issued, marking the launching of the 2.0 edition of the marine sci-tech innovation initiative.

Since the start of 2021, with a focus on shoring up weak links in the emerging marine industries, the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology has been adopting the marine sci-tech innovation initiative in an effort to foster new drivers of development for strategic emerging marine industries. The 2.0 edition of the marine sci-tech innovation initiative has a goal applicable for the new stage of development. That is to facilitate the building of a demonstration modern coastal city and a center for marine sci-tech innovation with international reach. To this end, the plan proposes prioritizing the development of eight industries and launching six enhancement campaigns in light of Qingdao’s strength in marine science research, resource endowment and industrial foundation. Through the implementation of the 2.0 edition of the marine sci-tech innovation, Qingdao will reinforce coordination between sci-tech innovation and industry innovation and accelerate the formation of new productive forces to pave a solid foundation for the building of an intelligent, green, open, safe system for modern marine industry and create new prospects of improving its marine strength.  (Geng Tingting)
