China-made heaviest international offshore oil and gas platform delivered in Qingdao 2024/8/23 source: International daily Print

An offshore oil and gas platform of Saudi Aramco Marjan was recently completed and delivered in Qingdao. Built by China Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd., which is affiliated to China National Offshore Oil Corporation, it is the heaviest international offshore oil and gas platform with the largest collection and transport capacity, made by China for a foreign country, marking a new breakthrough in the construction technology of large-scale oil and gas equipment in the country.

The Marjan platform delivered this time is an eight-footed offshore oil and gas platform, which is mainly responsible for collecting extracted offshore oil and gas and transporting it to land for processing. With an annual capacity of collecting and transporting 24 million tons of crude oil and 7.4 billion cubic meters of gas, it is one of the largest offshore platforms in the world. Weighing more than 17,200 tons, the platform is higher than a 24-story residential building, whose deck is as big as 15 basketball courts. The total length of cables used for building the platform is equivalent to the distance of two circles and half of the fifth ring in Beijing. Platform scale, pipeline types and sizes, and system complexity all have set records compared to similar international platforms. The platform will service the production ramp-up project in Saudi Aramco’s Marjan oil field, which is on track to become the world’s largest offshore oil field in terms of oil and gas processing capacity after going into full production.  (Wang Kai)
