To advance the park city initiative that aims to see 1,000 km-long greenways and 1,000 parks of all kinds, Qingdao plans to build 30 km-long greenways and 50 new pocket parks in 2025.
Qingdao will ramp up efforts to connect coastal greenways with their surrounding greenways, connect all greenways across urban areas and pilot the construction of eco-friendly forestry footpaths. On the back of these measures, Qingdao will commit itself to carrying forward the “Qing Xiao Yuan” initiative, launch a map brochure on more than 500 pocket parks, and continue efforts to tap into existing conditions and build 50 pocket parks under the initiative.
Furthermore, Qingdao will push ahead with the “small park towns” and “mini neighborhood gardens” initiatives. Qingdao will pilot the program to build 6 “small park towns” including Shazikou Neighborhood in Laoshan District and Cangma Town in the West Coast New Area of Qingdao, and capitalize on small vacant land in old urban residential areas and rural areas to build 100 “mini neighborhood gardens” in accordance with the will of the residents.
