Qingdao Today
An increasing number of tourist landmarks in Qingdao, including Laoshan Mountain, Zhanqiao Pier, Xiaomai Island, Golden Beach, Xingguang Island, Tangdao Bay and Shaohai, which appear in micro-dramas and miniseries, become known to tourists and are preferred by tourists to travel around Qingdao.
China’s National Radio and Television Administration recently announced the sixth batch of recommended micro-dramas and miniseries, in which tourist attractions are featured. Qingdao-produced My Oyster Boyfriend and Welcome to Guangshan made the list. The short-dramas or miseries produced by Qingdao before, such as Hungry Hearts, Panda & You Rolling In, Slow Boat Home, were included in the previous batches.
My Oyster Boyfriend was wholly set in the West Coast New Area of Qingdao. In the drama, spring scenery in Xingguang Island, Mangrove Forest Resort World and Dazhu Mountain Scenic Spot was uniquely spectacular.
Multiple tourist attractions have appeared in Hungry Hearts. Tourists could climbed on Laoshan Mountain to look into the distance and have a panoramic view of the magnificent scenery amid clouds. People could interact intimately with sea gulls in Zhanqiao Pier and see firsthand the cultural heritage of century-old Qingdao. A sea of rapeseed flowers were in full bloom.
In Slow Boat Home, audiences could see Golden Beach, Xingguang Island, Phoenix Mountain and Maojia Mountain in spring days, and experience idyllic pleasure as well as coastal recreation or vacationing.
It is not by accident that shooting micro-dramas and miniseries to recommend tourist attractions has become a vogue in Qingdao. On May 2024, Qingdao rolled out China’s first list of policies to support the development of internet-based micro-dramas and miniseries, providing RMB1 mln on an annual basis to support high-quality internet-based micro-dramas and miniseries that embody Qingdao elements. Beyond the Oriental Movie Metropolis and the pilot park for high-definition video industry, Qingdao in April 2024 launched the Northern China Micro-dramas and Miniseries Production Base (Qingdao Cangma Mountain), which boasts more than 100 shooting locations. With the production of 106 micro-dramas and miniseries, including well-sought-after Da Guo Jie De, in 2024, the base was rated as the “annual production base” by China’s competent department.
