During this year's May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, Qingdao airport managed a total of 2,814 flights, serving 403,800 passengers. On April 30, the airport experienced a peak in pre-holiday travel with a daily passenger throughput of 89,300.
Throughout the holiday period, cities such as Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Harbin, Hangzhou, Shenyang, Xi'an, Chongqing, Shenzhen, and Changchun were among Qingdao airport's top 10 domestic passenger traffic destinations, collectively accounting for 56 percent of the total.
Qingdao airport worked with multiple airlines to focus on key markets and popular routes, adjusting capacity dynamically. They also strengthened ticket promotions through online travel agencies to attract more passengers.
For international and regional routes, popular destinations included Seoul, Osaka, Busan, Singapore, and Hong Kong, collectively transporting 35,900 passengers, representing 78 percent of the total number of travelers during the holiday. Notably, passenger growth rates to Japan's Osaka and Hong Kong in China were 103 percent and 69 percent year-on-year, respectively, indicating a rising trend in outbound tourism.
According to border inspection statistics, Qingdao airport processed over 50,000 inbound and outbound passengers during the holiday, marking a 16.4 percent increase. This included about 32,000 mainland residents and over 8,700 foreign visitors, a significant 92.4 percent year-on-year growth.
To improve passenger transit efficiency, Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport Customs introduced one-stop services such as declaration and hand baggage inspection, optimizing transit routes and reducing transfer connection times by 10 to 20 minutes. This initiative ensured the smooth operation of 209 international transit flights, facilitating seamless connections for passengers from central and western regions through Qingdao to direct flights to Japan and South Korea, effectively expanding Qingdao's international transit capabilities and boosting the region's outbound tourism potential.
