Qingdao has emerged as a top destination during this year's May Day holiday, with a 91-percent increase in inbound tourism bookings, securing its spot among the nation's top 10 most popular cities for inbound tourism.
Attractions like the Tsingtao Beer Museum, Xinhao Mountain Park, and Laoshan Mountain Scenic Area have been bustling with activity, leading to a 30-percent surge in bookings for local accommodations and a 25-percent rise in hotel reservations.
During the May Day holiday, driven by colorful, themed shopping events, the city's consumer goods market thrived, with monitored enterprises achieving a total sales revenue of 412 million yuan ($56.87 million), an 11-percent year-on-year increase.
Just before the holiday, Qingdao hosted the prestigious 20th Huabiao Film Awards ceremony, elevating the city's status in the film industry and capturing the attention of cinema enthusiasts nationwide.
With the trend of "film + cultural tourism" gaining momentum, Qingdao is leveraging the success of the Huabiao Film Awards to create new spending hotspots. Popular film locations such as the Taipingshan cableway, featured in A Little Red Flower, received nearly 8,000 visitors on May 2, while the Qingdao Polar Ocean Park, enhanced by its new Ferris wheel, experienced a surge in visitor numbers over the holiday.
As a hub for the film industry, Qingdao is continuing to explore the "film + cultural tourism" development model, utilizing its rich cinematic resources to drive tourism and increase consumption.
Additionally, leveraging China's expanding visa-free policy, Qingdao is transforming tourist flows into sustained tourism revenue, enhancing convenience for international visitors and boosting inbound and outbound consumption.
Aligning with its efforts to revitalize consumption, Qingdao aims to become an international coastal tourism consumption hub by capitalizing on the visa-free effect and enhancing key consumption opportunities for foreign visitors, solidifying its position as a top global destination for leisure and exploration.
