With international travel recovering, Qingdao is attracting more overseas visitors by offering tailored experiences and improved services.
According to a recent report by Ctrip, Qingdao ranks among China's top 10 inbound tourism destinations, alongside Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Chengdu. In 2025, the city experienced more than 100 percent year-on-year growth in inbound bookings.
To cater to different travelers, Qingdao has developed specialized products for key markets. For South Korean visitors, who often come for short weekend trips, the city has launched Korean-language travel guides and themed tours, such as pet-friendly travel, coastal cycling, and mountain hiking. For the Southeast Asian market, Qingdao has organized promotional events in Malaysia and invited influencers from Penang to experience and share the city's highlights online, taking advantage of new direct flights.
German tourists, known for their interest in in-depth cultural experiences, are being offered heritage-focused tours. Russian travel agents have been invited to explore Qingdao's historic areas and the Tsingtao Beer Museum. Meanwhile, Australian travel professionals recently visited Qingdao on a familiarization trip, exploring landmarks like Zhanqiao Pier, the Badaguan scenic area, and the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center.
Qingdao has also worked to improve the travel experience. These improvements include introducing the Qingdao Pass digital currency wallet for easy payments, expanding tax refund stores for overseas shoppers, and setting up a one-stop service center at the airport offering currency exchange, SIM cards, and transport passes. The airport has also streamlined customs and transfer procedures, making connections faster and more convenient. These efforts are helping to make Qingdao an increasingly welcoming and convenient destination for international travelers.
