The Qingdao leg of the 2026 China Power Surfboard Club Cup kicked off at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center on Aug 26, bringing high-speed water sports action to the city's coastline.

The national-level competition is part of the 18th Qingdao International Sailing Week and the third China (Qingdao) International Marine Sports Conference, two major events highlighting Qingdao's strength in sailing and marine sports.

A total of 26 teams and nearly 100 competitors are taking part. The competition features professional categories for experienced athletes, recreational divisions aimed at wider participation, and youth categories designed to identify and develop emerging talent.

Competitors are racing on both gasoline-powered and electric surfboards. The program includes slalom and circuit racing across 10 categories, testing riders' speed, balance and control as they maneuver around markers and race through designated courses on the waters off the Olympic Sailing Center.

The event combines competitive sport with public participation, offering spectators a close-up look at an emerging form of water recreation.

As one of the events held during Qingdao's annual marine sports season, the competition also reflects the city's efforts to expand its portfolio of water sports and promote greater public engagement with its coastal resources.

Racing will continue over the following days, with competitors vying for top honors against the backdrop of Qingdao's waterfront.
