ZHU SHIDA, a deputy to the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress and deputy general manager of BGI, has proposed that Shenzhen can intensify its support for small and medium-sized medical device enterprises in the areas of finance, application scenarios, and talent qualification recognition and introduction.
The annual session of the city’s legislature officially opened Tuesday. As a deputy from the technology sector, Zhu has paid special attention to new developments in technological innovation.
“Establishing more large platforms and projects and investing more in this field can further bolster Shenzhen’s strength in cutting-edge technologies, especially in biomedicine and life sciences,” Zhu told Shenzhen Daily.
Zhu has put forward a number of suggestions this year, which include providing more financial support and facilitation to small and medium-sized medical device companies.
“Most importantly, it is suggested that Shenzhen can better support innovative medical enterprises to take the lead in carrying out pilot programs. Creating new scenarios allows innovative medical devices to better adapt to citizens’ needs,” Zhu said.
Zhu also advised that Shenzhen can unveil more facilitation measures for talent qualification recognition and talent introduction in relevant fields.
Biopharmaceuticals, high-end medical devices, and general wellness have been identified as Shenzhen’s key industrial clusters for development in the city’s action plan for developing strategic emerging industries and future industries.
The city expects that the added value of the high-end medical device industry will reach 65 billion yuan (US$9 billion) by 2025, compared to 27.5 billion yuan in 2021.
The city government’s work report also mentioned that Shenzhen will promote the National Innovation Center for Advanced Medical Devices and other manufacturing innovation centers to achieve more breakthroughs this year.
