WITH couplets adorning the doors of the Metro trains and red lanterns hanging atop and along the passageway, the Huangmugang Transport Hub in Futian District looked festive Thursday as its underground space opened to greet travelers.
The transport hub, which covers an area of 169,000 square meters, serves as a major interchange station for lines 7, 14, and 24. Stations of lines 7 and 14 opened to the public in 2016 and 2022, respectively, while Line 24 is still in the planning stage.
Following the opening of the underground space, passengers can access destinations such as the Shenzhen Sports Center, the Second People’s Hospital of Shenzhen, Huafu Village, Huaqiangbei Business Street, Bijia Hill Park, and Shenzhen Central Park from the transfer hall.
The construction of the transport hub, encompassing an underground area of 150,000 square meters, posed a significant challenge for builders due to the need to dismantle Huangmugang Overpass. The builders dismantled the overpass and started the hub project within nine days during the Spring Festival holiday in 2019. This endeavor also involved the renovation of Sungang Road West, Huafu Road, Huaqiang Road North, and Nigang Road West.
