THE PKU Shenzhen Forum 2024 opened Saturday afternoon at the Wuzhou Guesthouse in Futian District. The forum focused on the theme of “Science and Technology Creating the Future, Reform Leading Development.”
Renowned Chinese economists and scholars gave keynote speeches on topics like scientific and technological development, digital finance, international cooperation, China-U.S. relations, and the modern economy. The forum was moderated by Hai Wen, founding dean of the Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS).
Compared with previous iterations that mainly focused on economic and financial issues, this year’s forum expanded to include science and technology, international relations, and other fields.
Jia Qingguo, a professor with the School of International Studies at Peking University, told the media that, in the future, Shenzhen needs to uphold its original aspiration and promote the city’s exploration of a Chinese path to modernization with high-level opening up in order to succeed in competitions and secure a dominant advantage in scientific, technological, and economic development.
Initiated in 2007 and organized by PHBS, the PKU Shenzhen (Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School) Forum was originally an academic forum. Since 2021, the forum has been upgraded into a platform for economists and policymakers to share their perspectives and insights on development.
