FOLLOWING the resumption of the Shenzhen-Jeju air route, Oh Young-hun, governor of Jeju Special Autonomous Province, and his team arrived in Shenzhen on the maiden flight yesterday to promote tourism and learn about Guangdong’s green tech.

At a tourism briefing at the InterContinental Shenzhen in Nanshan District, Oh said that Jeju is one of the popular destinations for Chinese tourists in South Korea. In the first quarter of this year, the number of tourists from China to Jeju reached 430,000, and the number is expected to reach 1.2 million this year.

“Shenzhen is a young city full of vitality, and one of the most developed cities in China. I hope the workcation (working vacation) tourism in Jeju will attract young people from Shenzhen to the island, especially digital nomads,” said Oh.

Shenzhen Airlines officially resumed the route between Shenzhen and Jeju on Tuesday. Flight ZH9041 operates every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, departing from Shenzhen at 4:30 a.m. and arriving in Jeju at 8:45 p.m. Return flight ZH9041 departs from Jeju at 9:45 p.m. and arrives in Shenzhen at 12:10 a.m.

Tourism accounts for a large and growing share of Jeju’s economy. Its mild climate, natural scenery, and fantastic seashore make it a popular destination for South Koreans and visitors from other East Asian countries.

Besides tourism, Oh also hopes to strengthen cooperation in new energy, especially wind and hydrogen energy.
