ZHENG ZHENQI, from Shenzhen University (SZU), won a gold medal in the students’ growth track of the higher education group at the finals of the first National College Students’ Career Planning Competition, which was recently held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Zheng is studying economics at SZU’s College of Economics. She competed as a technology manager, an emerging profession within the technology service industry. The primary responsibility of the role is to support the commercialization of scientific and technological breakthroughs by evaluating, cultivating, and promoting these achievements, as well as providing financial, legal, and property rights services, among others.

Zheng started her career-planning journey when she was a sophomore. She has participated in projects involving the use of hypochlorous acid as a disinfectant, drainage pipeline inspection robots, and an AI-assisted facial recognition system for poultry disease. In these projects, she was primarily responsible for market analysis, product positioning design, project valuation, and roadshows with investors and customers.

It is reported that there are only about 30,000 technology managers nationwide at present.

According to a talent cultivation plan released by the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the country aims to cultivate over 100,000 professionals for the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements in 2025.

The competition, organized by the Ministry of Education, aims to strengthen career education and support graduate employment.

A total of 9.52 million students from nearly 3,000 universities signed up for the competition.
