THE U.S. student delegation visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) on Thursday afternoon.
During the tour, they listened to a brief lecture on the history of pre-modern China delivered by Lu Zongli, a professor from CUHK-Shenzhen, and visited the university’s library and Muse College.
Some students from CUHK-Shenzhen accompanied the group during the tour. Although they only spent a few hours together, they managed to develop a good rapport. Many were seen exchanging contact information before the group left the campus.
Liam Rinehart, a graduating senior at the University of Southern California, invited the CUHK-Shenzhen students to visit his university in the U.S.
“I think it’s really great when students can visit different universities in different countries. So far I’ve had a wonderful time conversing with students from Chinese universities and learning about their perspectives on the world,” said Rinehart.
“It’s really interesting to learn about how other people learn and live when they’re in college because it’s such a fun time in people’s lives,” he added.
Zhang Chi, a sophomore at CUHK-Shenzhen, said one U.S. student presented a self-introduction in Chinese when they first met. “Although they only spoke a little Chinese, they showed strong interest,” said Zhang.
The trip further heightened some of the students’ interest in learning Chinese. Joseph Salvi, a student from Merrimack College who is visiting Shenzhen and China for the first time, expressed his interest in learning Chinese.
“I think Shenzhen would be the most suitable place for a foreigner and international student to study. I feel the city is more welcoming to international students and foreigners,” Salvi said.
