AN electrical load test for the southern section of Metro Line 13 — between the Shenzhen University and Hi-Tech Central stations — was successfully completed yesterday, according to operator HKMTR Shenzhen Co. The test is a construction milestone that moves Line 13’s scheduled launch at the end of the year one step closer.

The power loading process in Metro construction is generally divided into looped wire loading, where the power for Metro station facilities is turned on, and contact wire power loading, which enables builders to conduct tests with train cars on the rail line.

During the test yesterday, the train ran at three different speeds to test whether the power supply system, contact net system, and railway system were compatible and stable.

The southern section of Line 13 has seven stations, including the Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint, Talent Park, Houhai, Keyuan, Yuehaimen, Shenzhen University, and Hi-Tech Central stations.

Metro Line 13, which runs south-north, starts at Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint and extends 22.4 kilometers northward to Guangming, covering the Houhai CBD, the Shenzhen Hi-tech Industrial Park, and the Liuxiandong Headquarters Base.

Eleven of the line’s 16 stations are interchange stations. The opening of the section is expected to relieve traffic congestion in the hi-tech park area of Nanshan District.
