A GROUNDBREAKING ceremony was held for the National Bio-Manufacturing Industry Innovation Center in Guangming Science City on Sunday, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s industrial transformation.
Approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, this center is the 10th national industrial innovation center in the country and the nation’s first innovation platform for bio-manufacturing.
Bio-manufacturing, considered a new “industrial revolution,” is reshaping material production processes and has become a strategic sector in the global economy.
Guangming District is strategically positioned to take advantage of opportunities in bio-manufacturing and is actively developing new productive forces to drive its economic growth.
In the last three years, 80% of newly established synthetic biology companies in Shenzhen have chosen to settle in Guangming. Currently, the district is home to 116 synthetic biology firms with a total combined value of 32 billion yuan (US$4.4 billion).
Guangming has established a 1.5 billion yuan industrial fund for synthetic biology and is building specialized industrial facilities with a total area of 1 million square meters. These efforts are aimed at establishing a globally influential hub for the synthetic biology industry.
The district has emerged as a hub for synthetic biology, housing key technological infrastructure, laboratories, and industry alliances that are essential for advancing bio-manufacturing capabilities.
