THE 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China concluded its third plenary session Thursday, adopting a resolution on further comprehensively deepening reform and advancing Chinese modernization.
This resolution is important not only to people on the mainland, but also to residents of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
Hui Kit-ying Kennis, a Hong Kong entrepreneur whose company is registered in Shenzhen’s Qianhai, shared her views on the resolution with Shenzhen Daily. “Deepening reform and opening up can further stimulate market vitality and promote high-quality economic development. Measures such as optimizing the business environment and lowering market access thresholds can attract more investment, promote industrial upgrading, and adjust the economic structure.
“The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) has numerous universities and research institutions, and deepening reform and opening up can facilitate the transformation of scientific achievements, enhance regional innovation capabilities, and promote coordinated regional development as the area still has many cities with varying levels of development. It can also help break administrative barriers and promote optimal allocation of resources,” Hui added.
Cheng Shao-yao, an engineer from Taiwan who works for Foxconn Shenzhen and has been living in the city for three years, considers Shenzhen as a gateway for the mainland to the world.
“The proposed reform and emphasis on Chinese modernization are steps in the right direction. I see these changes as beneficial for the business environment and the overall quality of life in Shenzhen,” Cheng told Shenzhen Daily.
“Living in Shenzhen has been a great experience for me. The city’s infrastructure, public services, and quality of life have continuously improved over the years. The efforts [by the government] to create a more sustainable and efficient urban environment are evident, and I believe the reform discussed at the plenary session will further accelerate these positive changes,” Cheng added.
Ally Li, executive vice president of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Youth Association Ltd. in Macao, said that the firm commitment to further deepening reform and advancing Chinese modernization will provide a strong impetus for the future growth of the GBA.
“The Greater Bay Area has become a strategic pivot in China’s new development pattern of reform and opening up, a demonstration area for high-quality development, and a leading region for Chinese modernization,” Li said.
