THERE is a saying that first-class companies work on formalizing industry standards, second-class enterprises build their brands, and third-class firms produce products. This is especially true in the electronic information industry.

In that industry, international organizations focused on formalizing industrial standards play a vital role in integrating the market and leading industrial development.

During the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC), one of the world’s most influential mobile communication expos, all six international organizations and one service institute based in the Hetao International Organization Headquarters, which focuses on international industry standards, welcomed the professional audience. Some of them also made their public debut.

After years of effort and leveraging the advantages of the policies, resources, and talent of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, several organizations working on international standards in the electronic information industry have established headquarters in the zone. In January, the Hetao International Organization Headquarters was launched. By the end of April, these organizations, with a total of 1,643 member enterprises, had collectively established 130 group standards and certified 211 products.

A new start

The Network Innovation and Development Alliance (NIDA), one of the organizations established in Hetao, announced its formation during the 2024 MWC in Shanghai and showcased its latest tech innovations and internet infrastructure upgrades.

NIDA, which was initiated voluntarily by industrial institutes, higher education institutes, research institutes, and companies from around the world, is dedicated to formalizing standards for establishing a global internet infrastructure.

Deng Yiou, general secretary of NIDA, emphasized that transformative innovations are emerging from foundational companies that challenge the current internet protocol (IP) sector.

In order to propel the entire industry into an era of innovation and drive the commercial transformation of technologies, NIDA has become responsible for building a platform dedicated to encouraging innovation and fostering common understanding among participants in this sector.

The choice to register in Hetao was an important decision. Shenzhen is an innovative landscape with a global perspective and unique concentration of leading companies and institutes in various industrial chains, and the city provides rich resources and efficient communication to any international organization that locates here.

“In the Hetao International Organization Headquarters, organizations can form deep cooperation and boost exchanges and communication on new concepts, thus further infusing powerful momentum into the development of the alliance,” Deng said.

Empowering

member firms

The International SparkLink Alliance, which set up its headquarters in Hetao in June 2023, is committed to promoting innovation in next-generation wireless short-range communication technology and developing an industry ecosystem. It supports applications of the technology in smart vehicles, smart homes, smart terminals, and smart manufacturing, all of which require extreme performance.

During an interview with Shenzhen Daily, Zeng Guosong, general secretary of SparkLink, was using a laptop and a mouse that met SparkLink standards.

“The response time of this mouse is instant. When I click it, the computer responds immediately,” said Zeng. “The advantages of this mouse can be demonstrated in e-sports competitions.”

To date, the alliance has released a total of 24 SparkLink standards.

For EagleDrive Tech (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd., a company providing wireless communication technologies for intelligent auxiliary systems in commercial vehicles, being a member of the alliance has provided an opportunity for significant advancement.

A national standard aimed at enhancing the safety of commercial vehicles, developed jointly by EagleDrive, has completed a public consultation process.

With no incidents reported, the standard is expected to be released this year and will require all commercial vehicles to be equipped with a 360-degree monitoring system for safety.

EagleDrive can apply technologies provided by SparkLink, thereby empowering its intelligent auxiliary system products with competitive advantages that allow them to respond instantly and accurately. This gives EagleDrive an opportunity to contribute to the formulation of standards in its professional field.

Currently, nearly 50 companies have released 150 commercial products utilizing SparkLink standards.

“Leveraging the advantages provided by Shenzhen, along with favorable policies, resources, and its attractiveness to talent, I hope the SparkLink Alliance can build the next generation of the wireless short-distance industry ecosystem in Shenzhen,” Zeng said while outlining the alliance’s future.
