TWO students from Shenzhen University (SZU) have been selected to serve as volunteers at the upcoming Paris Olympics through a selection process organized by SZU and the Alliance Fran?aise de Shenzhen.
Wu Cen, a 20-year-old majoring in French literature, and Li Yichuan, who is studying French, will take on the role of Olympic Family Assistants.
Their primary responsibility will be to support members of the Olympic family, such as International Olympic Committee (IOC) members, representatives from national Olympic committees, and athletes, and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for them by providing essential support and information.
To prepare for her role, Wu has familiarized herself with Paris and the Olympic venues, including the city’s landmarks, transportation systems, and emergency services. Additionally, Wu has received committee-organized volunteer training on topics like etiquette, hospitality, emergency response, intercultural communication, and language skills.
During an interview with the Alliance Fran?aise de Shenzhen, Wu expressed a desire to contribute to the success of the Games, create lasting memories, and grow personally through this unique experience.
Li, who feels honored to have been selected as a volunteer, stated, “I am looking forward to participating in the upcoming Olympic Games and fostering friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and France.”
Li will assist officials and athletes’ families from Tonga, helping them navigate various events and activities during the Games.
As part of the selection process to recruit 45,000 volunteers from around the world, the French Embassy in China and the network of Alliance Fran?aises in China have launched the “Paris 2024 Volunteers” program to identify, train, and send young volunteers from various parts of China to Paris for the Games.
A total of 27 students from universities collaborating with the 14 Alliance Fran?aises institutions in China have been chosen to volunteer.
