SHENZHEN-BASED ZTE Corp., alongside Malaysian operators CelcomDigi and U Mobile, announced recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records for achieving the fastest mobile speeds in the world at 30.8Gbps with 5G-Advanced (5G-A) during a live trial conducted in Kuching, Malaysia, on Wednesday.

In addition to the new benchmark, the partners also recorded individual users experiencing speeds of up to 8.5Gbps, ZTE said.

ZTE stated the companies intend to showcase the technology with Malaysia’s first-ever 5G-A live broadcast during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Sukma Games, which is set to take place later this month in the state of Sarawak.

The Shenzhen company said viewers of the opening ceremony will experience high-resolution streams with low lag.

This will mark the first time broadcaster Radio Televisyen Malaysia will solely capture footage via wireless technology.
