ON Friday, the Nanshan International Cultural Exchange & Service Center (NSIC) in Zhaoshang Subdistrict, Nanshan District concluded its “2024 Summer Culture Shop” international summer camp, where local and expat children formed friendships and broaden their horizons.
The camp attracted 30 participants who engaged in a variety of activities, creating unforgettable memories.
The camp, which ran between Aug. 12 and Friday, featured a diverse range of courses and activities designed to enhance physical fitness, knowledge, and cross-cultural communication skills. Highlights included Zumba, karate, and Spartan training sessions that promoted physical coordination, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Additionally, the children learned about traditional Chinese shadow puppetry and made their own puppets. They also watched a performance of “Monkey Subdues White-Skeleton Demon,” a well-known episode from the classic 16th-century Chinese novel “Journey to the West,” featuring the famous Monkey King.
Creative arts and crafts activities, such as flower pressing and making milk tea mooncakes, allowed the children to experience the joy of creation while developing hands-on skills. Participants were also introduced to African drumming, which helped them appreciate the rhythms of different cultures.
To further enrich the children’s experiences, the NSIC also organized field trips. The group visited the Wellington Equestrian Center in Nanshan, where they learned to ride horses and interacted with the animals. They also toured the Nanshan Safety Experience Center and participated in fire escape simulations that enhanced their safety awareness and self-protection skills.
The participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn new things and make friends from different countries and cultures. The NSIC said that it will continue to organize activities to provide residents with more cultural exchanges and learning opportunities, thereby contributing to the internationalization of Zhaoshang Subdistrict.
