SHENZHEN MSU-BIT University (SMBU) welcomed 937 freshmen to campus in Longgang District on Friday, including 867 from the mainland and 70 from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

This is the first year that SMBU has enrolled students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The university is also set to welcome approximately 170 new international students this week.

As the first joint Sino-Russian university, all SMBU students are required to take Russian language classes. Around 30 teachers from Russia will begin teaching these classes today.

On registration day, some freshmen interviewed by Shenzhen Daily mentioned that they had already started learning Russian, either in high school or through self-study.

Cao Xinyue, a freshman from Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, expressed her admiration for the beautiful campus and state-of-the-art facilities. She hopes to continue her studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) in the future.

This year, SMBU has introduced five new undergraduate majors that offer dual degrees from both SMBU and MSU. These majors include information and computer science, basic science of mathematics and physics, management science, painting, and dance education.

To enhance accommodation services and better match dormitory roommates, the university has, for the first time, gathered information about students’ hobbies, habits, and rest schedules.

Additionally, SMBU has launched a parent school aimed at enhancing collaboration between families and the university, while also improving parents’ understanding of the institution. Through this initiative, parents will have the opportunity to attend professional lectures that will empower them to better support and guide their children’s growth.
