A CELEBRATION ceremony commemorating the 20th anniversary of the founding of Peking University (PKU) HSBC Business School (PHBS) took place Saturday at the Shenzhen University Town Sports Center in Nanshan District and was attended by over 3,600 participants from all over the world.
Commemorative awards were given to a number of esteemed experts to honor their outstanding contributions to PHBS at many of the university’s key moments, including Prof. Xu Zhihong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and former president of PKU, and Prof. Lin Jianhua, former president of PKU.
Prof. Wang Pengfei, dean of PHBS, presented flowers to three celebrated professors as a token of appreciation for their contributions to teaching and research. They were Thomas J. Sargent, the 2011 Nobel laureate in economic sciences, recipient of the 2024 Chinese Government Friendship Award, professor at New York University, and honorary director of the Sargent Institute of Quantitative Economics and Finance at PHBS; Fan Gang, director of the National Economic Research Institute and professor of economics at PHBS; and Ba Shusong, executive director of the HSBC Financial Research Institute at PKU and professor of finance at PHBS.
At the ceremony, the trial version of the Intelligent Information Base of Chinese Enterprises was officially launched.
According to Wei Wei, director of the Intelligent Enterprise Information Center, the base is the first to use the self-developed intelligent technology platform ExpertCPT and the first Chinese enterprise database focused on management issues. It will greatly assist with enterprise information retrieval and research of enterprise cases and management problems.
Looking back on PHBS’ 20 years of development, Prof. Hai Wen, chairman of the PHBS Council and founding dean of PHBS, emphasized in his speech that “vision and excellence” are the foundation of the institution, “endless innovation” the essence of development, and “united efforts” the key to success.
Prior to the ceremony, PHBS also hosted various activities to mark its 20th anniversary, including alumni homecoming, lectures, and the unveiling ceremony of an alumni donation wall.
Founded in 2004, PHBS currently offers a doctoral program, specialized master’s programs, an MBA program, an executive MBA program, and numerous executive development programs. It has opened an overseas campus in Oxfordshire, England.
