IN a significant move towards sustainable development, Shenzhen released an identification rule system for its green and low-carbon industries during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Forum and the Shenzhen International Low-carbon City Forum in Longgang District yesterday.

The system aims to establish a database of green and low-carbon enterprises and projects, explore mutual recognition of green and low-carbon industries within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and accelerate the high-quality development of regional green and low-carbon industries.

Also during the ceremony, the implementation achievements of China’s first Carbon Footprint Labeling Certification System were announced.

Eight exemplary projects in Shenzhen were honored as 2024 Urban Green and Low-carbon Scenario Demonstration Bases.

The three-day forum is focused on exploring the latest trends and opportunities within the green and low-carbon industry, aiming to further enhance the quality of development.

Shenzhen’s commitment to green and low-carbon industrial growth is evident in its impressive metrics. In 2023, the city’s energy consumption per unit of GDP and carbon emissions per unit of GDP were just one-third and one-fifth of national averages, respectively.
