CHUNG IN-HWOA, mayor of Gwangyang, South Korea, is leading a delegation on a four-day visit to Shenzhen to reinforce cooperation in various fields, building on the strong and robust sister city relationship between the two cities.

The visit comes as Shenzhen and Gwangyang celebrate the 20th anniversary of their sister city relationship, which was officially established Oct. 11, 2004.

Upon the delegation’s arrival Tuesday, Shenzhen Deputy Mayor Luo Huanghao extended a warm welcome to Chung and his delegation.

Luo highlighted the robust momentum and vast potential for future collaboration between the two cities, expressing his anticipation for furthering practical cooperation in areas such as economic and trade investment, emerging industries, culture, and tourism.

Chung also expressed optimism about propelling the sister city bond to new heights and increasing practical cooperation that would benefit both cities.

A pivotal aspect of the South Korean delegation’s visit is the reinforcement of economic and trade ties. Yesterday, the delegation visited the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shenzhen Municipal Committee (CCPIT Shenzhen) and participated in a Shenzhen-Gwangyang investment environment briefing.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the Shenzhen International Chamber of Commerce and the Gwangyang Chamber of Commerce & Industry to bolster economic exchanges.

“There has been a lot of practical cooperation in various fields over the past two decades. The briefing will definitely serve as a catalyst for even closer cooperation between the two cities in the future,” said Yang Haobo, deputy director-general (counselor) of the CCPIT Shenzhen.

“With the signing of this MOU as a new starting point, I anticipate a surge in activity and collaboration between our business communities. This renewed partnership is poised to drive significant development in our economic exchanges,” Chung said during the signing ceremony.
