THE 20th Shenzhen Creative December will officially open at the O·POWER Culture and Art Center in Nanshan District tomorrow, as announced by the Information Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government during a press conference yesterday.

Themed around cultural innovation and creativity, this year’s event will include nearly 100 activities across the city. Aimed at invigorating cultural vitality and amplifying Shenzhen’s global cultural influence, the event will present 86 curated projects that encompass creative design, technology, and intangible cultural heritage.

The press briefing noted that the event is designed to captivate the public with a blend of traditional culture and modern innovation. Key attractions include an interactive digital performance based on the intangible cultural heritage of Wing Chun kung fu, an immersive show inspired by the game “Black Myth: Wukong,” a holographic projection display, an AI-generated film, and a creative cultural innovation market.

In a first, the event will also incorporate cultural elements from Macao by featuring a creative exchange and collaboration with Macao’s Tap Siac Craft Market.

Nanshan District’s art spaces will host 12 activities as part of the 20th Shenzhen Creative December, including a contemporary art and intangible cultural heritage exhibition, puppet art season, digital art showcase, global youth designer exhibition, and a creative market.

Shi Wenli, deputy director of the city’s culture, tourism, and sports authority, emphasized two significant exhibitions — the “5th Shenzhen Imprint: Art and Cultural Creativity” exhibition at the Shenzhen Art Museum and the “Objects and Narratives: 2024 Cultural Creativity Design Exhibition” at the Guan Shanyue Art Museum.

The Creative December event is a key component of Shenzhen’s strategy to bolster its cultural and tourism sectors in anticipation of the upcoming New Year’s Day and Spring Festival holidays. Throughout the city, public venues will feature themed lighting and slogans, and events that blend technology, art, and culture will enhance Shenzhen’s image as a hub of creativity and innovation.
