DURING a gathering aimed at fostering international collaboration and talent attraction, the Shenzhen Park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone (HTCZ) welcomed 33 doctoral and postdoctoral fellows from renowned overseas universities yesterday.

It was part of the ongoing “2024 Hundred Overseas Doctors’ and Postdoctors’ Visit to Guangdong” event, which is tailored to showcase Guangdong Province’s commitment to high-level talent development and innovation.

The Shenzhen event, which centered on promoting talent policies, entrepreneurship support services, and the vibrant business environment of the Shenzhen Park of the HTCZ, featured insights from leading industry experts.

Cai Quanxiong, co-founder and CTO of artificial intelligence company Corerain, and Liu Junqiu, director of the Shenzhen International Quantum Academy, shared their entrepreneurial journeys, offering valuable perspectives to the assembled scholars who hail from countries such as the U.K., the U.S., Germany, and Japan.

Both Cai and Liu are representatives of the overseas talent community at the Shenzhen Park.

Subsequently, Dr. Shao Baohua from the University of Warwick, Dr. Huang Wenxuan from the University of Southampton, and Dr. Wang Liman from the University of York took the stage to present their respective projects.

The Shenzhen event also featured a job fair and a project matchmaking meeting, which enabled direct interaction between the visitors and more than 10 enterprises and institutions.

“This trip has deepened my understanding of Hetao,” Ke Xuejia, a Ph.D. graduate from the University of St. Andrews, told Shenzhen Daily at the job fair. “I am interested in AI-assisted drug research and development, and I know that XtalPi, which aligns with my academic pursuits, is a unicorn enterprise within the Shenzhen Park,” she added.

Additionally, the overseas scholars were given a firsthand look at the Hetao exhibition hall, China Coal Technology & Engineering Robotics Technology Co. Ltd., and XtalPi, which allowed them to experience the innovative atmosphere of the HTCZ’s Shenzhen Park up close.

Official data show that as of the end of this September, the city had over 6.98 million professionals in various fields, including 26,000 high-level professionals. The number of individuals returning from overseas studies had also surpassed 220,000.
