China's intangible cultural heritage was displayed with immersive interaction at the media center of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) for guests to experience the charm of Chinese traditional culture.
As a sideline activity of the event, many intangible cultural heritage items including Chinese cloisonne, watermark woodcut, clay Peking opera mask, Beijing-style Qipao, or cheongsam, are showcased on site and guests could experience the items with demonstration from six intangible cultural heritage inheritors.
"Although cloisonne is originated in foreign country and then introduced to China along the Silk Road, it has been passed down for more than 600 years in China, and it is China that glorifies it," said Zhong Liansheng, a cloisonne inheritor.
The booth beside of Chinese cloisonne is clay Peking Opera masks.
"We paint clay Peking Opera mask based on the facial makeup painted by famous artists when they perform on the stage. We record them and pass them on from generation to generation," said Lin Hongkui, inheritor of clay Peking opera masks.
The booth of traditional craftsmanship of Beijing-style Qipao, or cheongsam, attracts many ladies to appreciate the charm of the traditional clothes.
"These two are Beijing-style Qipao and Shanghai-style Qipao. The first difference among them is fabric. Our Beijing-style Qipao often use satin brocade, which is thick and warm. And the fabric that often used for Shanghai-style Qipao is soft and thin. The second difference is binding. Beijing-style Qipao often use wide binding while Shanghai-style Qipao likes narrow binding," said Zhang Fenglan, inheritor of traditional craftsmanship of Beijing-style cheongsam.
Representatives from more than 140 countries and 30-plus international organizations are gathering in the Chinese capital for the two-day BRF starting on Tuesday.
The first-ever BRF was held in Beijing in 2017, and the second edition took place in 2019.
