SAN FRANCISCO -- Tech leaders highlighted the most promising fronts in the world of artificial intelligence as well as apparent fragmentation within the industry landscape at the Fortune Brainstorm AI 2023 in San Francisco.
The premier AI event commenced on Dec 11 and concluded the following day, exploring how the emerging technology is impacting sectors ranging from education and healthcare to retail.
Google recently made headlines with the release of Gemini, a powerful new language model that powers Google Bard, the company's chatbot that competes with OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Sissie Hsiao, general manager of Google Assistant and Bard, responded to questions about the most impressive features of Gemini during an on-stage discussion.
"I think the most sort of visually stunning is of course multimodality. This is where the model can ingest you know not just text but image and audio and video and also communicate back out to the user, in not only text but also in other sort of means of communication like video and image and audio," she said.
In light of recent drama surrounding OpenAI, where CEO Sam Altman was initially fired but later rehired, the emergence of factions within the AI community was a significant point of discussion at the event, as highlighted by speakers such as Aaron Levie, CEO of Box, who also discussed his company's use of AI to enhance the searchability of cloud storage.
