An assortment of cutting-edge 5G use cases have gone on display at the 2023 World 5G Convention in central China, gathering industry insiders, scholars and government officials to discuss the future of high-speed wireless networking.
Covering applications in fields ranging from manufacturing and agriculture to healthcare and tourism, the convention opened on Wednesday in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province with a focus on global inclusion and an event theme of "5G+ By All For All".
During the event running from Wednesday to Friday, a forum is being held to gather insights on 5G ecosystems as well as upstream and downstream industry chains.
As home to the world's largest and most advanced 5G network, China is a prime location to host the international gathering. Data from the country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed that China had built and put into operation some 3.2 million 5G base stations by the end of October, covering virtually all urban areas.
According to the ministry, 5G technologies have been used in 67 major categories of the national economy with nearly 100,000 application cases, and the telecommunication industry has invested nearly 600 billion yuan (about 83.79 billion U.S. dollars) in setting up 5G networks, driving direct economic output of 3.8 trillion yuan (about 530 billion U.S. dollars) and indirect economic output of 9.4 trillion yuan (about 1.31 trillion U.S. dollars).
