QINGDAO -- China launched a shopping carnival featuring a range of shopping-related activities in efforts to unleash the vitality of some time-honored brands and boost consumption.
The launch ceremony of the carnival and a shopping fair was held on Feb 4 in Qingdao, Shandong, promoting brand building and cultural inheritance by giving publicity to more venerable brands and cultural heritage items.
The event features 28 online and offline activities across the country, with three themes being highlighted all year round, namely consumption during holidays, live-streaming promotion of products, and exploration of stores.
It is part of the measures adopted by the Ministry of Commerce to promote the innovative development of China's time-honored brands, promote traditional Chinese culture and stimulate consumption.
The shopping carnival for time-honored brands has been held for three consecutive years since 2020, which has driven nearly 40 billion yuan (5.9 billion U.S. dollars) in total consumption.
Chinese time-honored brands refer to brands (trade names and trademarks) with long-standing history, distinctive cultural features, unique craftsmanship, sophisticated design and making, high-quality products and services, efficient marketing channels, and extensive social recognition.
