QINGDAO -- China will launch a campaign this year to advance the construction of more than 100 "beautiful bays" by controlling pollution and protecting and restoring the environment, and Qingdao Lingshan Bay is on the list.
China started to build "beautiful bays" in 2021, calling on coastal provinces and cities to strengthen financial support, establishing different mechanisms that involve the public in the endeavor, and inviting experts to provide technical assistance in the construction of "beautiful bays."
So far, more than 20 bays in Xiamen, Shenzhen, Qingdao and other cities have been listed as good examples for building "beautiful bays" because of their achievements in improving the marine environment and ecology.
The latest monitoring data show that water quality in 102 bays nationwide has significantly improved compared with that in 2022.
It is expected that by 2027, around 40 percent of the 283 bays across China will become "beautiful bays" featuring a clean environment, rich biodiversity, and harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.
