The 17th International Exhibition on Nuclear Industry China 2024 opened in Beijing on Tuesday, with more than 100 enterprises from home and abroad showing new technologies, equipment, and applications in the nuclear power field.
As one of the most influential nuclear industry exhibitions globally, the event has become a window and platform for China's nuclear industry products and technologies to go overseas.
FirmSys, a China-developed digital instrumentation and control system for nuclear power plants, is a highlight at the four-day event.
"FirmSys is a nuclear safety and digital instrumentation and control system with complete independent intellectual property, which has been widely used in 23 nuclear power units including Hualong One. When a nuclear power plant encounters abnormal conditions, it can safely shut down the nuclear power plant in one blink, ensuring the safety of the nuclear power plant," said Sun Yongbin, general manager of China Techenergy Co., Ltd.
The Hualong One nuclear reactor, a third-generation nuclear reactor with complete independent intellectual property, can generate nearly 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
In 2021, China's first nuclear power unit using Hualong One had just been put into operation. Nowadays, there are five such units put into operation at home and abroad to provide green power, and it has entered the stage of mass production.
So far, 27 Hualong One units are under construction at home and abroad, making it the third-generation nuclear power technology with the most units in operation or under construction globally.
"From the construction of a single unit in the past to the parallel design of multiple units now, the localization rate of Hualong One has exceeded 90 percent, driving the rapid development of more than 5,300 enterprises in the upstream and downstream industrial chains," said Zhang Zehao, research and design system engineer at China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd.
The exhibition also displayed other latest nuclear power technologies, showing China's digitalization and intelligentization in the nuclear industry.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) announced for the first time the opening of 10 nuclear industry research facilities and test platforms to the world, including the Huanliu-3 artificial sun, the China Advanced Research Reactor (CARR), and the Beishan Underground Laboratory.
"Through this opening, we can promote the integration of various disciplines and maximize the utilization of our experimental facilities," said Feng Yongjin, deputy dean of the Nuclear Power Institute of China.
The CNNC said it will deepen cooperation with international partners, and jointly promote the development of global nuclear science research.
