Nanjing City of east China's Jiangsu Province has benefited from the country's expanded visa-free policy as it has seen a surge of inbound travel orders this year.
Data from the local tourism authorities shows that the city welcomed 51,500 inbound tourists in the first two months of this year, up 112.3 percent year on year.
Under the visa-free entry policy that went into effect from last December, ordinary passport holders from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia can enjoy visa-free travel to China for up to 15 days during the trial period from Dec 1, 2023, to Nov 30, 2024.
In Nanjing, more than 30 tourists from Germany have just completed a two-day in-depth cultural tour, during which they enjoyed a light show on a local river, visited a more than 600-year-old city wall, experienced traditional Chinese paper-cutting and other intangible cultural heritages, and witnessed a Shaoxing Opera performance.
"This trip is great, especially the friendliness of the local people. They greeted us warmly and gave us a very cordial and friendly feeling, which was very impressive," said a tourist.
The tourists are the very first group sent to Nanjing by a well-known German travel agency, which launched a new China tour product this year and plans to send 50 such groups to the country.
