An exhibition marking the 10th anniversary of China's initiative to develop museums' cultural and creative products opened on Tuesday in Wuhan City, central China's Hubei Province, bringing together more than 1,000 products from 68 museums and cultural institutions across the country.
The exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to explore some of China's most popular creations inspired by museum collections.
As the host organizer, Hubei Provincial Museum is displaying more than 200 of its signature cultural and creative products.
Seventeen museums from across the province have also contributed nearly 100 representative items.
China's museum development entered a new phase in 2016, when national policies encouraged museums to make greater use of their collections through developing creative products.
Today, museums are developing comprehensive intellectual property brands, digital collectibles, interactive experiences and cross-industry collaborations, with tens of thousands of new products launched every year.
"Across China, cultural and creative products are increasingly being developed as IP series and brand ecosystems. The industry is also seeing trends toward digitalization and cross-sector collaborations," said Ma Shan, an arts and crafts specialist from Hubei Provincial Museum.
Organizers said the exhibition not only showcases creative design but also reflects the growing role of museums in connecting cultural heritage with contemporary lifestyles.
As museums continue to explore new ways of presenting history, China's cultural treasures are finding fresh audiences -- not only in exhibition halls, but also in homes, workplaces and everyday life.
