Chinese hit movies spark cultural craze beyond cinema this summer 发布日期:2026/8/14 来源:International Daily 打印

Chinese film enthusiasts visited film-themed exhibitions in multiple cities and immersed themselves in situational performances to experience the cultural charm of cinema beyond the screen.

The country’s film market maintains robust growth momentum this summer, with the fast-expanding "film-plus" consumption model stretching the industry's value chain and pushing the total output of the entire film sector to over 380 billion yuan (56.3 billion U.S. dollars) so far this year, as the filming locations of hit domestic animations become top summer travel destinations nationwide.
The best case is the box-office sensation "Dear You," which portrays the unique cultural heritage of "qiaopi" - the letters and remittances sent home by overseas Chinese - which once traveled quietly across oceans, carrying longing and news from distant lives back to families waiting in China.
The Fujian Provincial Archives in Fuzhou City, southwest China’s Fujian Province, houses over 50,000 qiaopi cultural relics in its collection. It offers free public access to 285 units of precious archives, and has recently become a highly popular spot for local residents and tourists.
"At the Fujian Provincial Archives, I saw over 50,000 qiaopi from overseas Chinese and the unsent one in the film. This is a condensed representation of the culture of qiaopi," said Ma Yucheng, a visitor.
"As viewers and descendants, we can piece together the images of many hardworking people from those times through the qiaopi," said Chen Jinghan, another visitor.
In Jinan City of east China's Shandong Province, public welfare film screening programs were also launched to enrich the cultural life of family audiences. During the summer vacation, the movie activities for children have attracted a large number of families to gather in cinemas.
