Northwest China's Shaanxi opened a provincial intangible cultural heritage experience center in Xi'an City on Tuesday.
The center greeted its first visitors with a performance of Xi'an Drum Music.

"For over 1,000 years, Xi'an Drum Music has been passed down orally through generations of artists, retaining its authentic and unadulterated tradition. Today, musicians have built on this and implemented innovative compositions to ensure dynamic preservation of Xi'an Drum Music," said Zhao Xiaomin, an inheritor of Xi'an Drum Music.

Nearly 2,000 exhibits featuring representative intangible cultural heritage are showcased at the experience center, including Xi'an Drum Music, Yangge -- a traditional form of Chinese folk dance, Huaxian shadow plays -- a main branch of Chinese shadow puppetry originating from Huaxian County and inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, and Fengxiang woodblock new year pictures with a history of over 500 years.

"Many young people really want to learn about traditional culture, but they lack knowledge of relevant channels. And this experience center is a good place for them," said Liu Shani, a resident in Xi'an.

"This is to help more people know and understand intangible cultural heritage, which is closely related to our life. We hope that we could better spread Chinese fine traditional culture," said Shao Yi, director of the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Center.
