China is expected to see 860 million railway trips during the summer travel rush that kicks off on Monday, according to the country's railway operator.
The summer travel rush is usually a busy season for China's railway system as college students return home and many vacation takers are on the road.
This year's summer travel rush will last for 62 days until Aug. 31, according to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. Over 13.8 million passenger trips are expected to be made daily during the period.
Railways across China have increased the number of trains used while improving service quality and efficiency to meet demands.
As many as 276 temporary trains will be added every day, with a daily total of around 11,500 passenger trains planned during the period.
Special services such as season tickets that allow people to travel as much as they like over a set period of time and tourist packages for popular destinations have also been introduced.
"The Beijing Group has launched time-based ticket packages and season tickets on the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail line and Beijing-Xiong'an intercity line this summer. After buying them, travelers can take the designated train multiple times within the validity period without having to purchase a separate ticket each time," said Guo Liuming, deputy director of the Passenger Transport Department of China Railway Beijing Group.
